I quote from the Dictionary of the Royal Academy:
condolences.
(Del lat. Condolēre).
1. tr. ant. pity.
2. prnl. compassion (pity ‖).
I now quote from selling
Carlos Ruiz Zafon:
I thought about a grace upon [his sister], and before I could blink, Tomás Aguilar fell on me like a deluge of punches that left me several weeks mourn.
Apart from the metaphor too literally, that a sovereign leave a person beating me seem quite secondary pity, surely hurt more than wounds.
And some inconsistency and occasionally have a pass, but it's one after another after another. Do you wonder that so hard for me to read The Shadow of the Wind ?
